Mixed emotions

Yesterday we had our first visit from the social worker. This was the beginning of the Home Study. We were both nervous, but found out as soon as Kathie arrived that she is very caring and professional. My nerves quickly turned into feelings that I was not prepared for. I expected to have lots of paperwork to complete (we still have to write our life stories) and a lot of heavy discussion, but I had not taken the time to think about the feelings that our daughter may someday have.
Kathie is doing her best to prepare us and make sure we are qualified and stable enough to become parent. The comment that really shook me is that someday we may have to tell our daughter that she is with us because of her homeland's policies. It is too sad to realize that her mom and dad must have been heartbroken because they had to abandon a child.
I also saw an email regarding referral time and the possible extension. Currently the wait time from the time of your log-in date with the CCAA is 11-12 months. The rumors are that this time may possibly be 18-24 months in the near future.
